And I&#8217;m not just talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/\">add-ons<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Say hello to <a href=\"http:\/\/kb.mozillazine.org\/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries\">about:config<\/a> (just type <strong>about:config<\/strong> in your address bar to view and edit yours).<\/p>\n<p>The good news, though, is that you don&#8217;t really have to know what things like <strong>editor.singleLine.pasteNewlines<\/strong> mean &#8212; though if you wanted to be able to copy &#8216;n paste multiple lines into any Web form in Firefox, which is great for, say, doing <a href=\"http:\/\/local.google.com\">Google Local<\/a> searches with addresses you&#8217;ve copied, then you&#8217;d search your <strong>about:config<\/strong> for the <strong>editor.singleLine.pasteNewlines<\/strong> preference, double-click it, and <strong>set the value to 2<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><center><img src='http:\/\/gabeanderson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/snag-1540.png' alt='editor.singleLine.pasteNewlines' \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>But I digress. <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s <strong>how to make Firefox really scream and your Web surfing experience even faster<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download &#038; install <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalidea.com\/content\/firetune\/firetune-index.html\">Firetune<\/a> (thanks, <a href=\"http:\/\/webworkerdaily.com\/2007\/08\/03\/firetune-the-ultimate-firefox-hack-for-windows\/\">Web Worker Daily<\/a>)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalidea.com\/content\/firetune\/firetune-index.html\"><img src='http:\/\/gabeanderson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/snag-1676.png' alt='Firetune' \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Back up your current configuration using the button in the app.<\/li>\n<li>Specify your combination of computer \/ connection speed (e.g., fast computer, fast Internet connection).<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Other optimizations<\/strong> and check the box to <strong>Enable some performance tweaks common to all configurations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Tune it!<\/strong> and Firetune will update your about:config settings.<\/li>\n<li>For an extra speed boost, visit your <strong>about:config<\/strong> and search for <strong>network.http.pipelining.maxrequests<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click <strong>network.http.pipelining.maxrequests<\/strong> and <strong>set the value to 30<\/strong>, which means that Firefox will make 30 get requests at once:<br \/>\n<img src='http:\/\/gabeanderson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/snag-1541.png' alt='network.http.pipelining.maxrequests' \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note that Firetune makes all the same changes as <a href=\"http:\/\/forevergeek.com\/open_source\/make_firefox_faster.php\">outlined on this page<\/a>, except the maxrequests tweak, which also helps quite a bit.<\/p>\n<p>After following these simple steps, you&#8217;ll see that the difference in speed is unbelievable.
